Yesterday I began our summer series, The Story. In case you missed it, you can watch the message here. At the end of yesterday's message, I gave four questions that will help you apply the Bible to your everyday life as you read it. The questions are based on Paul's encouragement to Timothy. Paul was an early follower of Christ and author of much of the New Testament. Timothy was a young follower of Christ and someone Paul was mentoring.
Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and is useful one way or another - showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way.
2 Timothy 3:16 MSG
The four questions to ask yourself as you read stories or verses in the Bible:
1. Is there a truth or promise to claim?
2. Is there a sin I need to confess?
3. Is there a behavior I need to change?
4. Is there something I need to keep doing?
As we begin The Story, we'd love to have you follow along with us as we walk through the Old Testament to discover the larger story behind all the smaller stories. We've created a free study guide that's available at all our campuses. Each week you'll answer the questions in the study guide to prepare for Sunday's message. So if you already have your guide, do Part 1: Creation to get ready for this Sunday. If you're unable to attend on Sunday mornings, you can call the Mechanicsville office to request one (804-730-3676) and then watch the podcast each week.
If you missed this past Sunday you can watch The Story: Prologue here.
